Duskfade Controls & Keybinds

The complete default control scheme for PC Keyboard/Mouse and Xbox/PlayStation gamepads, plus the current status of in-game remapping and Steam Input workarounds.

Community Feedback Notice: Multiple threads on the Steam Community Discussions (“need option to reassign gamepad command” and “ADD Remapping FOR KBM”) report that native in-game remapping is currently unavailable (player-reported / pending official confirmation as of current patch). PC players can resolve this using Steam Input.
Recommended Input Device

While full Keyboard & Mouse support is functional, Duskfade was designed from the ground up for modern analog gamepads. Playing with an Xbox, DualSense, or Switch Pro controller offers smoother directional jumping, intuitive grapple targeting, and comfortable air-dodge chaining.

Input Architecture

Understanding Duskfade's Control Feel

Combat and platforming in Duskfade rely heavily on fluidity and momentum. Zirian's moveset integrates responsive double-jumping, mid-air dashes, grapple latching, and kinetic sword slashing. Knowing your exact input bindings is critical when reacting to high-speed boss telegraphs like Wrath's shockwaves or Guayota's magma pounces.

In-Game Limitations

Current Remapping Status & Developer Roadmap

As of current patch observations (observed September 7, 2026), Duskfade does not feature an in-game rebinding menu for changing default keyboard keys or swapping controller button layouts (player-reported / pending official confirmation).

Players on Steam have actively requested accessibility improvements—specifically allowing dodge to be rebound from Q to Left Shift or Spacebar, and offering Southpaw analog stick configurations. Until an official update introduces native remapping menus, we recommend the methods detailed below.

Unofficial Workarounds

How to Remap Controls via Steam Input & Third-Party Tools

Steam users have access to the powerful Steam Input system, which overrides in-game limitations and enables custom bindings for any gamepad:

Method 1: Enabling Steam Input for Controllers

  1. Open your Steam Library and right-click Duskfade.
  2. Select Properties → Controller.
  3. Under “Override for Duskfade”, choose Enable Steam Input.
  4. Click the Controller Layout button (or controller icon in your library) to swap any face buttons, triggers, or sticks to your liking.

Method 2: Remapping Keyboard Dodge (Q Key) via Mouse Software

If pressing Q disrupts your movement while holding W or A, use your mouse driver (Razer Synapse, Logitech G Hub, Corsair iCUE):

  1. Assign Key: Q to your mouse's Side Button 4 (Thumb Button).
  2. This allows you to dodge and dash effortlessly with your right thumb without releasing WASD.

Method 3: Third-Party Utilities (reWASD / AntiMicroX)

For non-Steam copies or advanced macro setups, external utilities like reWASD or the open-source AntiMicroX allow complete virtual gamepad emulation and key-to-button translation across any Windows PC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you change keybinds natively inside Duskfade on PC?

No. As of the launch patch (August–September 2026), Duskfade lacks an in-game menu option to rebind keyboard, mouse, or controller inputs (player-reported / pending official confirmation). Players desiring custom layouts must use external remapping tools such as Steam Input.

Why is the dodge roll key mapped to Q by default on PC?

Community discussions on Steam have noted that Q is assigned as the default dodge/dash key on keyboard, which many players find awkward while pressing WASD (player-reported). We recommend using Steam Input or mouse software to remap dodge to a side mouse button (Mouse 4 or 5).

Is Duskfade better played with a controller or Keyboard & Mouse?

Because Duskfade is a 3D action-platformer featuring tight analog movement, grapple swinging, and 360-degree camera boss tracking, the developers and community strongly recommend playing with a gamepad (Xbox controller, DualSense, or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller).
